We are full speed ahead with YORKFEST 2024….Where friends come together….could it BE any more fun!!! T-shirt orders are coming in and the parade registrations are really picking up! There are other activities that registrations will be helpful. Early registration not only secures your place, but it gives the individual event organizers the information they need to work with their caterers and facility managers. The weekend of festivities kicks off Thursday, September 5, at Kilgore Memorial Library (520 Nebraska Ave). In addition to the Farmers Market, there will be inflatables, and nachos for the family to enjoy. After the bounce houses come down, you are invited inside the library to watch the Magician, Jeff Quinn! York University will host the very popular Fall Speaker Series at the Clayton Museum. New this year, Phoebe’s Open Mic Night will take place Thursday, September 5 beginning at 6:30PM. The Chamber and Captain Red Beards will have the stage set for local performers to showcase their talents. Friday, September 6, gets started with The Mayoral Prayer Breakfast at York’s Holthus Convention Center at 6:30AM when a message of inspiration will be delivered to all of those in attendance. The cost to attend is $17.50/per person or you may sponsor a table (8 persons) for $250 (https://yorkchamber.org/2024-mayoral-breakfast/). Yorkfest Royalty Luncheon will take place at York Country Club beginning at 12 noon. The cost for lunch is $17.50/per person (https://yorkchamber.org/2024-yorkfest-coronation-reservation/). Everyone’s favorite afternoon snack, Funnel Cakes, will be served up in front of the Coldwell Banker/NHS Real Estate Offices. York Parks and Recreation will host Bike @ Nite on the Beaver Creek Trails and new this year, York High School Girls Golf Team is hosting a 2-person adult/child 9-hole golf scramble at York Country Club (1016 W. Elm), with a shotgun start 4:30 PM (team registration https://yorkchamber.org/2024-yhs-girls-golf-family-tournament/ and sponsorship opportunity https://yorkchamber.org/sponsorship-for-family-tournament/). Entry fee is $60 for a team of two and it includes a cart and sponsorship is just $50 per hole. Also new this year, York Eagles Club will hold a Street Dance on 6th Street/Lincoln Ave, featuring the Tim Zach Band.

Saturday, September 7 is a day full of favorites. Get your day started right with delicious pancakes at the Fire Station and before the parade gets underway, enjoy the popcorn give away, bake sale, and Bloody Mary bar. 6th Street will be setup with the mini carnival, petting zoo and food trucks. The Grand Parade will get underway at 10 AM and will be filled with music and floats. The skate contest returns to Harrison Park and there will be square dancing at the Senior Center. The Prime Rib Buffet will be served (reservations are requested at 402-362-7755) and new this year, York’s Young Professionals will hold the closing ceremonies for Yorklympics at the Elks Lodge. After the festivities, all are invited to stay and watch the Huskers vs. Buffalos.

Sunday, September 8 will be a full day to close out the weekend. Things get going with the Co-Ed Sand Volleyball Tournament (https://tms.ezfacility.com/OnlineRegistrations/Register.aspx?CompanyID=2020&GroupID=1203834) and there are a few great options for breakfast at St. Joseph’s and Chances R (reservations are requested at 402-362-7755). The Annual Greg Holoch Memorial Golf Tournament is always a wonderful day of fun while

NEW THIS YEAR….The first annual Cultural Arts Festival will take place at York’s City Auditorium and the committee is wanting to have an incredible lineup of artists, vendors and performers showcasing their heritage! Earlier this week, we had a great turnout for the Hispanic Community Conversation with York Public Schools. Our next time together is Monday, September 9. Our discussion will take place at York General (2222 N Lincoln Ave) beginning at 6 PM. Those attending are encouraged to bring at potluck item. Alecia has put together panelists that represent York General, York Medical Clinic, York Dental Arts and York Dental Associates. These professionals are excited to visit with attendees about their services and address questions about various office and insurance processes.

I want to thank everyone that was involved with this year’s York County Fair. The weekend was a lot of fun and so managed! York County Ag Society and the Extension Office work throughout the year to pull together this fantastic weekend. I encourage everyone to express your gratitude to these two groups for all of their hard work.
