Is the learning network credible? ›

The Learning Network provides a reliable place to connect current events to reading and writing skills-building.

The Learning Network site is dedicated to helping people teach and learn with Times content. Every school day since 1998, it has offered fresh classroom resources — from lesson plans and writing prompts to news quizzes, student contests and more — all based on articles and images published on NYTimes.com.

These are: Connection Building: a PLN adds new people to gain further knowledge resources for when they are needed. Connection Maintenance: a PLN keeps you in touch with relevant people. Connection Activation: a PLN activates connections with select people to allow for new learning.

Could be IT skills, communication skills, complaint/conflict handling skills, problem-solving skills and lots more. Attitudinal shifts and Attitudinal Learning – re-examining our values and beliefs. What behaviours does the individual need to change? What do they need to stop doing?

Some students do as well in online courses as in in-person courses, some may actually do better, but, on average, students do worse in the online setting, and this is particularly true for students with weaker academic backgrounds. Students who struggle in in-person classes are likely to struggle even more online.

In some ways, an online learning platform allows teachers to connect more closely with students for increased personalized communication. Teaching virtually can provide more opportunities for one-on-one interactions with smaller class sizes or individualized lessons.

All of our resources are free — and everything we link to in The Times is free as well, as long as you access it from our site. You do not need a Times subscription to use The Learning Network.

A PLN, or Personal Learning Network is a personalized network where individuals and resources can connect to enhance a person's learning and/or professional development. A PLN consists of so many individuals with so many different resources including, but not limited to, books and websites.

Why is PLN important? ›

PLNs are an essential part of lifelong learning for teachers. A PLN consists of the people you informally learn from and share ideas with, as well as the resources, tools, and materials that support your learning.

For example, one requirement of a PLN is to gather the information that helps one stay current with developments in a particular field or interest area. Blogs, RSS feeds, email lists, websites, news groups and podcasts can provide a steady stream of up to date information.
