INDIANAPOLIS - Shut out of a hotel by the Super Bowl, the Magic had to fly in from Cincinnati before the game Saturday.
It didn't produce a pretty game against the Pacers, but Dwight Howard's 27 points and eight rebounds led an 85-81 win.
"It's not a game day I've ever had before," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Our original plan was just to stay at home (Friday) night and fly in here the day of the game. But the NBA wouldn't allow that. So instead, they made us do the double flight."
Orlando took control by opening the second half with a 14-2 run. Danny Granger made a 3-pointer for Indiana to make it 83-81 late. But Ryan Anderson's two free throws sealed it.
Game highlights: Blake Griffin barely missed a triple double - 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists - despite not playing in the fourth quarter of the visiting Clippers' 107-81 win over the Wizards. ... Rookie Kyrie Irving made a driving layup in traffic with 15.8 seconds left to help give the host Cavaliers a 91-88 win over the Mavericks. It was his second winning layup in a week. ... Earl Watson threw an alley-oop and made a 3-pointer during a 14-0 run that helped the Jazz beat the Lakers 96-87. L.A. fell to 3-8 on the road.
Around the league: Hawks center Jason Collins will miss two weeks with a sprained left elbow sustained Thursday against the Grizzlies. ... 76ers forward Elton Brand sat out Saturday against the Hawks with a sprained right thumb sustained Friday against the Heat and is day to day. ... Pistons guard Brandon Knight broke his nose Saturday when he was hit by teammate Greg Monroe's elbow. His status had not been determined.
